Editorial policy

Plain English, sourced, reviewed, dated, and honest about uncertainty.

Sourcing

  • Every tax rule, amount, limit and date links to a dated official source: Revenue guidance, Tax and Duty Manuals or legislation.
  • Where Revenue pages are stale or contradictory, we use the scheme-specific authoritative text, cross-check the legislation and document the discrepancy.
  • Keyword and traffic figures are never invented. Search demand is validated with Search Console after launch.

Review

  • Each rule record carries a review state. Only approved records drive numeric results; anything else returns a manual review state.
  • Important financial claims are signed off by a named tax-qualified reviewer before indexing. Pages awaiting that sign-off say so.
  • Calculators have table-driven tests for every rule and year, including boundary cases.

Updates

  • After each Budget, Finance Act or Revenue update we flag affected rule IDs, verify the text, add a new year version, run the tests and publish atomically.
  • Previous years stay immutable except for corrections, and public guides show their history.

What we will not publish

  • Guaranteed refunds, average refund claims without evidence, or false urgency.
  • Government branding, copied Revenue screens or anything suggesting official status.
  • Mass-produced near-duplicate pages per year without genuinely distinct rules.
  • Sponsored content inside calculation results. Sponsorship never alters eligibility logic.
